Abolish Abortion in Spain: Protect Every Human Life

We, the undersigned, call on the Spanish Parliament and the Government of Spain to repeal Law 2/2010 on Sexual and Reproductive Health and to enact legislation that fully protects human life from the moment of conception.

Every human life has inherent dignity and worth. Science confirms that a unique human being begins at fertilization. From that moment, a distinct individual exists — with its own DNA, its own development, its own future. The law must reflect this reality.

Spain's current abortion framework permits the termination of unborn lives up to 14 weeks on demand, and beyond that under broad exceptions. Since the law came into force, hundreds of thousands of unborn children have lost their lives. This is not a healthcare achievement. It is a profound loss that our society must confront honestly.

We believe that a just society protects its most vulnerable members. The unborn child cannot speak, cannot vote, and cannot defend itself. It is the duty of the state to stand in defense of those who cannot defend themselves.

We also recognize that women facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies deserve genuine support — not a system that presents abortion as the default solution. We call for expanded investment in maternal support programs, adoption services, economic assistance for families, and counseling resources, so that every woman feels empowered to choose life.

The right to life is the foundation of all other rights. Without it, no other right has meaning. Spain's Constitution recognizes the value of life. We ask that this recognition be made complete and consistent.

Other nations have moved toward stronger protections for unborn life. Spain can lead in Europe by choosing a culture that embraces life at every stage.

We make the following specific demands:

1. Repeal Law 2/2010 on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy.
2. Enact constitutional and statutory protection for human life from conception.
3. Increase public funding for programs that support pregnant women, mothers, and families in vulnerable situations.
4. Promote adoption as a positive and accessible alternative.
